2017 Travel Tech Trend 1: “Off-the-Grid” Destinations
By Kasia Pankowska
2016 has been an absolutely fantastic year for us here at Stay Planner! We had about a zillion inspiring conversations with innumerable hoteliers, and now the time has come to sum up what the common themes were and try to work out what 2017 will bring to travel technology. Over the next seven days, we will share one future trend a day, plus a couple of reasons why we feel we’re in the right place at the right time.
2017 travel tech trend 1: “off-the-grid” destinations, and how apps can come to your rescue when “off-the-grid” is just a fancy way to say you’re lost!
With currencies in a state of flux, holidaymakers will look to low-cost destinations outside of the dollar-denominated Caribbean and the Euro-denominated EU – think places like Thailand instead of Barbados and Romania instead of the Alps. While there, they will seek out technology that will help them overcome language barriers, stay in touch with their hotel when they are out and about and potentially rescue them if they manage to get lost.
Now, we’re all for getting intentionally lost and freely roaming around in the maze that is Bangkok or Delhi – switching off is all well and good, and exactly what holidays are made for!
However, it’s a lot more enjoyable when you’re safe in the knowledge that when you’ve had enough, you can just pull out your phone and get an Uber to rescue you in two minutes.
It’s even more enjoyable if you know that while you wait for your Uber, you can use Stay Planner to have room service ready for you when you get back and book a guided tour for the next day, as getting lost clearly isn’t all it’s cracked up to be!
